Remote Demonstrations
As many companies now have faster internet connections, it is now viable for you to receive a demonstration at a time and location to suit you. There are two methods that JETCAM has tested and recommend. To arrange a demonstration please locate your nearest reseller, or contact us directly for more information.
Gotomypc.com
This service requires both users only to have a web browser and access to the Internet. Works over all speeds, including 56kbps modems. The host PC downloads the 'server' software which runs in the background, and the client downloads a 400kb browser plugin. To connect to the server computer, the client goes to Gotomypc.com and logs in, then simply clicks on Connect to the PC that is shared (there can be more than one PC shared by a company!). A new window opens and the user has control (server user can disconnect the client at any time if required). Gotomeeting.com is a similar service offered by the same company, allowing multiple users to attend a single meeting online.
Microsoft Windows XP or Vista
Both Home and Professional have an enhanced Messenger service, which also allows 'Remote Assistance'. Not only does this allow the user to view/control the other computer but it also allows for audio and video conferencing. This is of course dependent on the Internet connection between both computers.
Why have a remote demonstration?
There are infinite reasons why you might prefer/require a remote demonstration. Perhaps an on-site demo has already been done and another engineer wants to see the system, or perhaps you want to answer a few questions before making a final decision. It also demonstrates how quickly and easily you can be supported after installation.
Both of the above-mentioned methods also allow for file transfer between computers
Which method is best for you?
If both users are running Windows XP, then this is the quickest, easiest and cheapest method - it's free! Both users need to sign up for a Microsoft Passport to get access to the MSN Messenger service, which takes a couple of minutes. If you both have fast connections and soundcard, speakers and microphone it removes the requirement for a telephone call to take place at the same time as a remote connection.
Gotomypc.com is not a free service, but has a low monthly fee. There is also a free trial. The major benefit is that it works with virtually any computer (including MAC and Unix) and any web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera etc). It is quick and easy to install and works extremely well. Whilst it doesn't give you the voice capabilities that Windows XP does you can guarantee that it will work with whatever computers you are both using. A major benefit of Gotomypc over XP is that several PCs can be shared and accessed via the single web interface - a list of all online computers are displayed when the user logs in.
